FAQs

How does this work?

Prior to the shoot we will discuss your project and/or you can provide me with a written brief.

During the shoot I’ll supply all the equipment/models/studio time as agreed, and I’ll work with you or your marketing team to deliver the brief. Alternatively, you can just leave me to get on with it.

After the shoot I’ll show you what I consider to be the best results. Unless we’ve agreed beforehand you won’t see everything I’ve taken.

We will discuss your preferred shots and I will make any amendments to meet the terms of the initial brief. Changes that weren’t part of the initial brief will mean an additional charge.

What happens if I need to cancel or postpone my professional commercial photography?

If you need to postpone or cancel your commercial photography session please let me know as soon as you can. For postponements, I’ll work with you to agree an alternative date.

Cancellation of a photo shoot made more than two weeks before the date of the shoot will incur loss of deposit but no further fee. Cancellation of a professional commercial photography shoot between 1 and 2 weeks from the shoot date will incur a fee of 50% of the booked rate. Cancellation within 1 week of the agreed date will incur 100% of the fee.

Who owns the intellectual property rights to my commercial photography?

You’ll appreciate that, as a Lancashire commercial photographer, my reputation and body of work starts and ends with my images. That’s why I and every other professional photographer protects their work so carefully – it’s all we’ve got.

I retain copyright in all my work. When you ask me to be your professional commercial photographer we will agree the extent to which you can reproduce that work.

Once you’ve paid me for my work (and providing you include a credit to Photography by Luke each time you use an image), you can use your photographs to the extent we agree. If you find that you need to broaden the terms of your licence, just get in touch.

Do I really need to credit you when I use an image?

Yes please – because it’s always cheaper to do it that way than publishing without a credit or in excess of the terms of your licence.

Can I let a third party have/use/work with the images?

You can, provided that’s what we’ve agreed in advance. If that’s not part of your licence agreement please get in touch before you take any further action.

Can you use the images you take for us?

Yes, by choosing to work with me you agree that I can use the images I take for you as part of my promotional and marketing material.

Whose responsibility is it for obtaining rights and releases?

If I’m arranging models/locations etc it’s my responsibility to get all necessary releases, consents etc. If you’re arranging them, it’s your responsibility.

What happens if you’re ill?

If I am too ill or injured to carry out your professional commercial photography and I cannot supply the services we have agreed, I will do everything possible to book a replacement photographer. Under normal circumstances I will ensure a second professional commercial photographer is on standby for the day. If a replacement photographer cannot be found I’ll refund any payments I’ve received.

How do we pay you for our commercial photography?

You can make payment by BACS or cheque within 28 days of invoice. You’ll receive full payment details with my invoice.
