Fighting fit photography

I’ve been in London, on a shoot for a project which is helping over-50s get active.

If you’ve visited these pages before you’ll probably be familiar with Mytime. They’re the leisure and fitness organisation helping to keep more people active via their network of leisure centres, swimming pools and golf courses.

Recently, I was asked to cover a commercial photography shoot in Bromley for a local news service. The advertorial would target inactive men, over the age of 50, and give them the opportunity to get into (or back into) sport through a targeted programme of group activities.

It’s already been a massive success, with the 500th participant to the programme signing up recently.

Those men already on the programme love it. Just a quick read of the testimonials showed how much better they felt, how much weight they’d lost, and how much more energised they had become through taking part.

I wanted that feeling to shine through in the photography – and not just the fitness element, but the social factor too. There’s a great feeling of camaraderie amongst the men taking part, and I wanted this commercial photo shoot to show that, rather than focusing purely on the practical stuff of weights and exercise bikes.

Which is why these images focus on smiles, conversation and simply enjoying yourself, as much as the business of getting fit.
